Image
Assalamualaikum guys This week we have learned about International Framework of Sustainable Development. Its provides a structured approach to address global challenges through shared principles, goals, and collaborative efforts. It also emphasizes the integration of social, economic, and environmental dimensions of development to ensure sustainability for current and future generations. Central to this framework is the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development , which includes the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that guide nations toward eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all. Key agreements such as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change emphasize reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting global temperature rise. Additionally, frameworks like the Addis Ababa Action Agenda focus on financing sustainable development, while conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) address the protection of biod...

WEEK 7: Challenges to Sustainable Development

Assalamualaikum W.B.T  In this week, my lecture discussed about Challenges to Sustainable Development across social, economic, and environmental aspects. 1. Social Challenges  - Inequality: Disparities in access to education, healthcare, and basic resources hinder inclusive growth.   - Cultural Resistance: Societal norms or traditions may resist sustainable practices, such as waste management or renewable energy adoption.   - Population Growth: Rapid urbanization and overpopulation strain housing, infrastructure, and public services.   - Community Engagement: Lack of awareness and participation in sustainability initiatives limits progress. 2. Economic Challenges - Funding and Investment: Limited financial resources to implement sustainable projects, especially in developing countries.   - Profit-Driven Models: Businesses prioritizing short-term profits over long-term sustainability goals.   - Technological Gaps: High costs of ...

WEEK 9: Campus Observation

Image
Assalamualaikum, W.B.T.  The semester was coming to a finish, and I had a lot of assessments to complete. There is no physical class today, but we are asked to gather in groups and choose any spot on the IIUM Gombak campus for our on-campus observation. For this week's session, our group chose the IIUM food waste compost project at HS Kulliyyah. After visiting this location, we are more aware of the facilities at IIUM and have experienced the IIUM's efforts to create a sustainable and greener campus. During our observation, we learned various lessons: 1. As students, we may contribute to environmental sustainability (food waste management) by arranging our meals every day so that we do not contribute to further waste dumping. It is an essential lesson for us since it shows how much food waste is produced each day. Without proper food waste disposal, our university compound would become less clean, affecting our quality of life. 2. In our opinion, The IIUM Food Waste Composti...

WEEK 6: Roles of University and Sustainable Development

Assalamualaikum and hye!      Today, my teammates and I were assigned to select any area on the IIUM Gombak campus that reflects aspects of sustainable development, and we selected the Disability Service Unit Office. The reason we chose this location is to show how the university's efforts to promote and support students with disabilities connect with SDG 10, which aims to reduce inequalities and there are a lot of things we learned there. I hope you will also visit there. See you soon!

WEEK 5: IIUM Library

Assalamualaikum W.B.T     For this week, we were told to visit Dar al-Hikmah, the library of IIUM Gombak campus. We looked through a few shelves in the library to pick appropriate books related to the Sejahtera Concept for Sustainable Development for our reading today. Some of the books that drew our interest are: 1. Organising Learning in the Primary School Classroom by Joan Dean 2. Islamic Arches  3. The Principles of Sustainability by Simon Dresner       The first book provides practical insights into effective classroom organization for primary school teachers representing SDG 4 (Quality Education) by emphasizing effective teaching techniques, strategies for managing time, resources, and space to improve learning outcomes. The second book explores the historical and architectural significance of Islamic arches and how they reflect the values of Islamic civilization. It represents SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities),...

WEEK 10: Midterm Examination

Assalamualaikum wbt.      I hope you are doing well especially on this hectic week. This week, we have a midterm online quiz with 50 objective questions regarding what we learnt in sustainable development class and a short essay about my group's project.      After submitting the quiz, we are required to watch a recorded lecture on Measurement SD in week 10. In the field of academia and research, an index is used to assess any achievement. In Malaysia, we have the Malaysian Shariah Index, which determines the government's standing in carrying out national administrations based on Maqasid Shariah principles. I think this will be the last part of my blog , thank you for reading my blog!

WEEK 8: Roles of Institution in Sustainable Development.

Image
Assalamualaikum wbt.       This week we have learned about the roles of different national and local institutions in order to achieve sustainable development goals. Focusing on SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), it emphasizes the importance of cross-sector and cross-country collaboration in achieving all of the goals by 2030.      For example, Zakat Selangor's institution collaborated with Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) to remind Selangor residents to pay zakat in a special khutbah after working hard to continue giving money to those in need because some residents did not pay zakat. Zakat Selangor collaborates with Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) to ensure zero poverty among those in need. Simply said, collaboration between national and local institutions and groups is essential in promoting the SDGs and educating people around the world in order to implement them globally.
